The last day of events will be Nov. 21st!

Welcome

Due to rain, the mixed doubles had to be rescheduled to November 21st.  Please read below as there will be changes in the refereeing of the matches.

Additional Information

WELCOME TO THE MAKE-UP DAY FOR THE

VIRGINIA PICKLEBOO CLASSIC

Pre-Match Instructions

Please carefully read this important information in its entirety.

Check in:  Players are required to check-in at least 30 minutes prior to their event start time.

Referees: As we are preparing to expand the tournament to be a national qualifying event in the future, we will be training referees. Most if not all matches will have referees assigned. All matches leading up to and including all medal matches will have experienced referees assigned.

Warm up:  The first matches of the day will begin promptly at 7:00 AM and players are expected to have their warm up completed priorto that time. You have 2 minutesto get to your assigned court and warm up before your next match begins.  A match is forfeited if you are not on the court in ten minutes. Avoid forfeits by being on time!

Balls: Two sanitized balls will be distributed with the score sheet and must be returned at the end of the game.   Additional balls are available should any become defective. All balls shall be placed in the sanitizer bucket at the court while not in use.

Starting server bands: Starting server bands will be provided and must be worn by each starting server, no exceptions.

Referees and Rules:   You must be familiar with the USAPA 2020 rules and have read and understood the following:

  1. Players must use USAPA approved paddles and they are      responsible for ensuring that their paddles are on the approved list.
  2. Players are responsible for calling all the lines on their      side of the court with the exception of service foot faults, NVZ foot      faults, and short serves, which will be called by the referee if you are      in an officiated match.
  3. Servers in non-officiated matches shall check to make      sure the receiving team is ready, or should be ready, before calling the      score.  The receiving team may call a timeout after the score is      called, but not after the server has started the service motion.
  4. After the score is called the serving team has 10 seconds to      serve the ball. Failure to do so results in a fault.
  5. The server may not begin his/her service motion until      the entire score is called.  Starting the service motion before      the completion of the score being called results in a fault.
  6. The serving team may ask the referee for the score and      correct server. If they ask if they are in the correct position, the      referee will only tell them their score.
  7. The receiving team may ask a referee for the score. If they      ask if they are the correct receiver, the referee will tell them their      score.
  8. Each team is entitled to two 1-minute time-outs for 11- or      15-point games.
  9. There is a maximum of 2 minutes between games.
  10. In games to 15, or in the third game of a two out of three      match, teams have a maximum of 1 minute to change ends of the court.      Players may hydrate and talk with their partners but may not      receive third-party coaching during the changing of ends.
  11. If there is a dispute on a line call, you may ask the referee      to make a ruling. The referee will only make a ruling if he/she clearly      saw the ball; otherwise the call made by the opponent stands.
  12. Please exhibit good sportsmanship at all times. Any      action deemed by the referee to be unsportsmanlike will result in a      technical warning (TW) or a technical foul (TF). A TW and a TF or two      technical fouls will result in a forfeit.
  13. Players requesting to see the head referee or TD for      rule interpretation lose a time-out and are issued a technical      warning if the referee’s original call was correct. If no time-out is      available, a technical foul is issued in place of a technical warning.

Before an officiated match begins, a referee will check player paddles, remind players of their line calling responsibilities, inform the players of the match format,  be sure that the starting server bands are visible, identify starting servers, use a fair method of selecting serving and receiving team and side selections and inform players of the remaining warm up time available.

Winning players are responsible for promptly returning the score sheet to the tournament desk at the completion of a match.  Both balls that are distributed with the score sheet must be returned for the score sheet to be counted. The winning players will each receive a raffle ticket that can be used to win one of the 24 paddles that will be given away after the last match of the day. You need not be present to win.
